Byass
House was built in the late 1700s and is a perfect example of a Georgian
town house. It stands in a street of similar period properties in
the old part of the town. It is an elegant and extremely comfortable
home and is bright and airy with a wonderful conservatory. From
the very attractive south-facing garden, with its barbecue and tables
and chairs, to the drawing room with its roaring log fire - there is something
perfect here for every season. The large kitchen has an Aga - we
could not live without one - and this room is definitely the centre of
the home. I am sure you will enjoy staying here as much as we love living
here.
If you have never visited Arundel, you have missed one of England's best kept secrets. It is a gem of a town and nestles on the edge of the South Downs on the River Arun. The magnificent castle and cathedral are both a short stroll from the house and there is a wealth of antique shops, gift and lifestyle shops in which to browse. There are stunning walks in the Park and along the South Downs. Climping beach - a mere four miles from the house - offers swimming, windsurfing and sailing. There is also an open air swimming pool in the town, overlooked by the majestic castle.
Goodwood and Fontwell racecourses are nearby, as well as several golf
courses. Take the train to London for the day, or
Portsmouth and
the Isle of Wight, and then return in the evening to dine at one of the
town's many excellent restaurants. Ten miles away is Chichester
with its excellent theatre and Brighton is only a forty minute drive. Historic
Arundel is unique. Come and see for yourself.
